Waxing Into Fall
It feels great to be both back in the studio and settling into Autumn! After a long hiatus; I've consciously committed to jumping back into working with wax. Encaustic is an ancient form of hot beeswax combined with damar and various forms of pigment. Modern day encaustic works of art often incorporate a mix of materials-- from oil paint to layers of collaged ephemera. The media and the process encourage experimentation and using one's 'artistic intuition' which is why I find it so captivating to work with. There are seemingly endless possibilities to explore!
Being a landscape architect and an avid hiker/ cyclist/ skier; I am primarily inspired and influenced by the beauty found in nature. Whether it be an ethereal landscape scene, or a specific 'art form' detail I discovered in a leaf. This series of small paintings that I created for the annual Shorelake Arts 6x6 Art Show will be on display and for sale on October 17th from 3-6pm at Shoreline Community College. Each original piece is handcrafted by me (excluding the leaves themselves that I imprinted with). They are all one of a kind and not copied, nor will be printed. The purchase price for each of the nine pieces is only $36 and the proceeds will be donated to Shorelake Arts. Please consider checking out the show and donating to this great local organization.
